She figured she could be placed anywhere, and it wouldn't matter. As long as they wanted her there. Her family wasn't important to her, they wanted her to be 'out there' and 'original' but to marry pure. As long as she married pure they wouldn't care.
Personal: Valerie would rather read a book about a girl falling in love than experience it herself, mostly because she was afraid of hurting. She had been let down by her first boyfriend. And her first girlfriend killed herself leaving a note about how it was Valerie's fault. Her parents just told her that's what she got for dating muggles instead of pure blooded wizards.
